Ultimate Tool Storage For Small Garage Workshops – Detailed Plans!

Get Organized! – DIY Tool Storage

In my ongoing effort to maximize my small single-garage workshop, I designed and built my version of The Ultimate Tool Storage And Organizer Unit For Small Garage Workshops.

The multi-tier unit paired with custom tool holders allows maximum tool storage within the smallest space. Tiers can be moved sideways using embedded rollers to access the storage units behind them.

Using this system I was able to store and organize all my loose hand tools with quick and easy access.
I de-cluttered my workspace and got myself one step closer to having the Ultimate Small Woodworking Workshop.

The 40+ page plan includes a detailed breakdown of the construction and assembly stages, making this more technical plan easy to follow for both beginner and more advanced woodworkers alike.

The plan contains Metric and Imperial units as show in the examples below.

The above images are examples of how the plan is laid out.

Bearing Mounting Options

Embedded bearings allow the rolling backings to function. To embed the bearings I designed and 3D printed custom bearing holders for 636zz bearings. You can download the zipped STL file for the custom bearing holders by clicking HERE or design your own using the drawing.

The plans also include an alternative option to the custom printed bearing holders as shown by the examples above.

Other hardware used to build this project include hinges, bearings, gas struts, a door latch/lock, magnets, etc. These items have been added to my Amazon storefront. SHOP NOW!

I love the tool storage! In a shared workshop I now have all the handtools I need locked away but within easy reach. I had to adjust the dimensions to fit 13mm thick material, but that was easy with the very detailed and easy to understand plans. Thank you so much for the well thought out plan!

I recently purchased the plans and have found them to be very detailed. However, in reviewing the “Master Cutting List” I found the second dimension for part WJ-014-039 to be incorrectly specified as 1 9/16″ – I believe it should be 13 3/4″ (it is also incorrectly specified on sheet #27). I therefore recalculated all of the inch measurements and found that values are rounded to the nearest 16th inconsistently (sometimes rounded up, sometimes rounded down). Being a relatively inexperienced woodworker, I’m not sure if the inconsistency will result in a perceptible issue.

Note: The mm to fractional inches conversion tool I used can be found at https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/length/mm-to-inch.html
